EPUB to PDF

Turn an ebook into a PDF, in your browser. The book never leaves your device.

HonestPDF converts EPUB ebooks to PDF entirely in the browser. The chapters come out as real, selectable text with their headings, lists, quotations and pictures, in reading order, and nothing is uploaded. Books protected with DRM are not converted.

Why convert an ebook here

  • Real text, not photographs of text: the PDF can be searched, copied from, and read aloud by a screen reader. Converters that screenshot each page give you none of that, and a file ten times the size.
  • The book stays a book: chapters in reading order, headings still headings, lists still lists, quotations still quotations, and each chapter starting on its own page if you want it to.
  • Illustrations come too: covers, figures and photographs are carried into the PDF from inside the archive, without a single request to the network.
  • Nothing is uploaded: the archive is opened in your browser and the PDF is built there. Your reading is nobody else's business, and it is not ours either.

What happens to your book

Nothing leaves your device. The EPUB is opened in the tab, its chapters are laid out in the tab, and the PDF is built in the tab. There is no upload, no account, no copy kept on a server, and no record of what you converted, because there is no server involved at any point.

Questions about EPUB to PDF

Is converting an EPUB to PDF legal?
Changing the format of a book you lawfully have is an ordinary thing to do, and this tool does only that. What is not lawful, in the United States, the European Union, Turkey and most other places, is removing the protection from a book that is sold locked, and that is a separate offence from copying the work. So this converter does not do it and refuses those files.
Why does it say my book is protected?
Because the file itself says so. An EPUB records inside the archive that its text is encrypted, and this tool reads that and stops. Books bought from shops that sell without protection, and everything from Project Gutenberg or Standard Ebooks, do not carry it and convert normally.
Will the text still be selectable in the PDF?
Yes. The chapters are typeset as real text rather than drawn as images, so you can search the PDF, copy from it, and have it read aloud. That also keeps the file small: a converted novel is usually a few hundred kilobytes rather than tens of megabytes.
Are the pictures kept?
Yes, if they are inside the EPUB, which is where a book keeps them. Anything the book tries to fetch from a website is left out instead, because nothing here is downloaded from anywhere.
Can it handle a book in Japanese, Arabic or Hindi?
Yes. Scripts the embedded fonts cannot write are drawn with the fonts your own device has, so the words come out on the page rather than silently disappearing. A book in one of those scripts takes longer and produces a larger file.
Is my book uploaded anywhere?
No. The archive is opened by JavaScript in this tab and the PDF is built in the same place. There is no server to upload to, which is also why there is no account and no limit on how many books you convert.
