Remove Blank Pages

Remove Blank Pages

Find the empty pages in a scanned document and take them out, after you have looked at them.

Remove blank pages from a PDF for free in your browser. Scanning a stack of double sided paper leaves you the empty backs, and finding them by hand through two hundred pages is nobody's afternoon. This looks at every page, works out which are empty, and shows you all of them as thumbnails with the empty ones already ticked. Nothing is removed until you say so. It is built for real scans rather than clean white pages: paper that is cream rather than white, dust from the scanner glass and the dark band a lid leaves down one edge are all recognised for what they are. Nothing is uploaded: the document never leaves your device.

When this helps

  • A double sided stack went through the scanner and every other page came back empty
  • Cleaning up a long scanned contract before sending it on
  • Trimming an archive so it is not half empty sheets
  • Preparing a document for print without wasting paper on blanks
  • A fax or copier PDF that padded the file with separator pages
  • Cutting a scanned book down to the pages that actually have text

What you get

  • Built For Real Scans - Cream paper, dust from the glass and the shadow a scanner lid leaves are recognised as empty. A tool that only knows white pages finds nothing in a real scan
  • You See Them First - Every page is shown as a thumbnail with the empty ones ticked. The near misses, a hole punched margin or a stray speck, are shown but never ticked, because that is a judgement about your document and not ours
  • Everything Else Is Untouched - The pages you keep are removed from the document rather than copied into a new one, so bookmarks and form fields survive. Measured: the copying approach loses both
  • Nothing Leaves Your Device - Every page is drawn and examined in your browser. No upload, no server, and a scanned contract stays where it is

Privacy First:

Your PDF is read, drawn and rewritten inside your browser. No upload, no server, no copy kept anywhere. Close the tab and nothing remains.

Questions about removing blank pages

Will it delete a page that has something on it?
Not on its own. A page is only ticked automatically when nothing at all survived the check, and even then you see it as a thumbnail before anything happens. Pages that are nearly empty, a hole punched margin or a page with one initial, are shown with a marker but deliberately left unticked: no rule can tell a hole punched blank sheet from a page reading two words, so it does not pretend to and asks you instead.
Why does it not just check whether the page is white?
Because almost no scanned blank page is. It is cream, or grey, or has a shadow along one side. This works out the paper colour of each page first, from the colour the page has most of, and measures against that. It is why a cream scan and a white page behave the same here.
What happens to bookmarks and form fields?
They survive. The pages you tick are removed from the document you gave it, rather than the pages you keep being copied into a fresh one. That difference is not academic: measured on a file with an outline and a form field, removing kept both and copying lost both.
How long does a long document take?
Every page has to be drawn to be looked at, which is about 13 milliseconds a page, so a 300 page document takes around four seconds and you see the count climb while it works. Each page is drawn once and that same drawing becomes its thumbnail, so nothing is rendered twice.
It missed a blank page. Why?
Probably a hole punched margin, heavy speckle from an old copier, or a stamp. Those leave real marks, and the check treats real marks as content on purpose, since the alternative is deleting pages that have something on them. Look for it in the grid, tick it, and it goes.
Is my file uploaded?
No. Each page is drawn on a canvas in your browser and examined there, and the new file is written there too. Nothing is sent anywhere, which is the point when the thing you are tidying up is a scan of a signed document.
