What makes this different from printing two to a page

  • ✓The pages are embedded, not photographed: the text in the result is still text, so it can be searched, copied and read aloud, and the file stays about the size it was. A tool that renders each page to an image gives you none of that.
  • ✓Turned pages land the right way up: a scan stored upright and rotated a quarter turn is a page most tools embed unrotated and squash into the cell sideways. It converts, it opens, and it is wrong.
  • ✓Pages of different sizes each keep their own shape: an A4 report with a Letter appendix and an A5 note comes out with all three fitted to their cells rather than stretched to them.
  • ✓Nothing is uploaded: the PDF is opened in your browser and the new one built there. No account, no size ceiling set by a server, no copy of your document anywhere.

What happens to your PDF

Nothing leaves your device. The file is read in the tab, rearranged in the tab, and saved from the tab. There is no upload, no account, and no record of what you converted, because there is no server involved at any point.

Questions about pages per sheet

Is the text still selectable afterwards?
Yes. Each page is embedded as a page, which keeps its text, its links and its vector drawings intact. That is also why the result is roughly the size of the original instead of many times larger, which is what happens when a tool photographs each page.
What if my pages are not all the same size?
Each one is fitted to its cell at its own proportions and centred in whatever room is left. Nothing is stretched. The sheet itself is the size of the first page, turned to whichever way round suits the arrangement.
Why is two per sheet landscape and four per sheet portrait?
Because that is what fits. Two portrait pages sit side by side on a landscape sheet; four go two by two on a portrait one. The paper is the same either way, just turned.
Does it handle pages that have been rotated?
Yes, and it is worth asking. A PDF can store a page upright and record that it should be shown turned. Many tools embed the stored version, so a scan that looks landscape on screen arrives sideways and squashed on the sheet. Here the page is measured as it is seen.
Can I use this to save paper when printing?
That is the main reason people do it. Four to a sheet turns a hundred page report into twenty five sheets, and printing double sided halves that again. The text is small but real, so a reader can still search the file.
Is my file uploaded anywhere?
No. It is read and rebuilt by JavaScript in this tab. There is no server to upload to, which is also why there is no account and no limit on how many documents you do.
