HonestPDF on your phone

The same tools this site runs in a browser tab, in an app you open from the home screen. Every file is read and written on the device itself, which is the whole point of both.

What the app does

The tools, not a subset

Merge, split, compress, sign, redact, fill forms, add page numbers, strip metadata, OCR a scan, and convert to and from Word, Excel, PowerPoint and images. It is the same code the website runs, in a native shell.

Open With, from anywhere

Share a PDF from Mail, Files, Messages or any other app and HonestPDF appears in the list. The file arrives in the tool you pick without a trip through a download folder.

It keeps working with the signal off

Nothing is uploaded, so nothing needs a connection once the app is installed. Put the phone in airplane mode and merge a document on a train.

No account, and nothing to collect

There is no sign-in, no subscription and no analytics in the app. Its App Store privacy label reads Data Not Collected, and that is checked against the shipped bundle rather than asserted.

Every tool the app carries

Each of these opens in the app exactly as it does here, and works the same way with the file staying on the device.

What it runs on

  • iPhone and iPad on iOS 17.4 or later. That number comes from the PDF engine, not from a preference: the renderer needs an API Safari shipped in 17.4, and below it documents open and then stall.
  • Android phones and tablets, through Google Play.

Why an app at all, for a site that says it needs no install

Because a phone is where most people meet a PDF, and the browser on a phone is a worse place to do this work: files arrive in other apps, tabs are evicted while a large document is processing, and Open With does not reach a web page. The app is not a different product with a different promise. It is the same processing, in the place the file already is.

Free on both stores. No account, no trial, no watermark on anything it makes.

Questions about the app

Is the app free?

Yes, on both stores, with every tool available. There is no premium tier, no trial and no watermark on the output. It is the same offer as the website, for the same reason: there is no server bill to pass on.

Do my files get uploaded from the app?

No. The app processes documents on the device with the same code the website runs in a browser tab. There is no upload step, which is also why it works with no connection.

Does the app need an account?

No. There is no sign-in anywhere in it, and nothing that would need one. Nothing you do in the app is recorded off the device.

Which iPhones and iPads does it support?

Anything on iOS 17.4 or later. The floor is set by the PDF rendering engine, which needs a JavaScript API that Safari shipped in 17.4; on older systems documents open and then stop responding, which is worse than saying no.

Can I open a PDF from Mail or Files directly in the app?

Yes. HonestPDF registers as a handler for PDF files, so it appears in the share sheet and in Open With. Pick a tool and the file is already loaded.

Is the app different from the website?

It carries the same tools and the same privacy promise. The website additionally has the blog, the tool comparisons and the guides, which are reading rather than working, so the app leaves them out.
